Post E36 M3 Ignition wiring help
hi all - my heater blower motor wasn't working this week so I took some initiative and removed the plastic cover under the steering wheel and tried to locate the final stage unit to see if it was loose. Anyway - when I got the cover off, I didn't easily see the final stage unit so I decided to abort the job. When I was putting the plastic cover back on I shimmied some of the wires under the steering wheel. Now my car suddenly won't start. I am pretty sure I jigged a wire loose. My starter has always been super strong including today before I poked around with the wires.

Does anyone know of anyone who might come by and check it out at my place in SW Calgary for a fee?

I'm hoping its very minor and just a connection or something that I inadvertently loosened.

I'm not great at mechanical stuff...

thnx everyone for any ideas

fascinating - found some info online on point. Problem resolved by replacing fuse #31. Key symptoms were no starter engagement and also the HVAC display was blank. Changed the fuse and perfect now.

It's good to hear that you fixed the problem. You must be relieved. That reinforces the troubleshooting practice of checking the simple stuff first.
It's amazing what you can find with google and the internet.

I was going to suggest the Transponder Ring that goes around the key barrel, its a plastic ring with a coil in it that relays info from the chip in the key to the EWS module under the steering column.. they tend to burn out along with the chip in the key and can cause similar issues..

Glad it was a cheap fix in the end
