Post E39 and E10 Owners
Hello! Been an E39 Fan for a while, but just got into a 1975 BMW 2002 project with my son. I have worked on cars of various makes since my early teens. Became an engineer, and continued with the car hobby here in Calgary. Restored a few Chevies and Alfas over the years. Rather shocked at how much some of the stuff we virtually threw away is going for these days! After picking up the E39 M5 in 2013, I was taken with the engineering. Had to throw a bunch of parts at it, but it is sweet now. I"ll be interested to see how the 2002 compares to the Alfas and other cars I've driven over the years!

Discovered the forum through Google searches. Glad to find it, as I hope to connect with others who own similar cars.

YAY another 02 on the site! Welcome

If your looking for help sourcing parts etc let me know, I've been at it a little while with mine.

Did you just pick this car up from just outside Calgary? There was one I was dealing on and it got scooped from under me! It was the same color and a square tail too.

My next purchase will be an E39 M5, so I'm sure we will have a lot to chat about. Just a matter of finding one that's half decent in condition without a massive price tag. There doesn't seem to be a ton of them around here.

@s2catzo335: My son and I did buy it earlier this year. Didn't think we sniped it from anyone. Seller said he had some interest, but one of the guys that was going to come and look at it, couldn't make the trip. It had a bit of damage on the front left from what we think was an animal hit, maybe a deer? We've repaired that, and have replaced rotted rockers, and panels behind the doors. Just fixing the minor rot in the trunk, beside the gas tank. Biggest issue now is what to do with the aftermarket sunroof. Hoping to find a 5 speed for it too.

@silverstone, I remember this car, it's not the one I was looking at. You bought this before the other one came up. I've been sitting on a 5 speed to do the swap for a couple years now. But I might know of a 5 speed available. If it is I will send you a message and let you know what the story is.

I can only assume you are part of 2002faq?

@s2catzo335: I visit 2002faq quite often, but am not a member yet. I'll dig into it soon. Really interested in your 5 speed source. Please do let me know if it could pan out! Is there anything specifically you are looking for?

@Zorac: We looked for a roundie for a while, but decided on the 75. Adding bumpers off a 73, and trimming the marker lights. All mods that can be reversed, if ever desired. Did you repair your car yourself?

Not the body work, or the machining on the engine rebuild, but pretty much everything else. Keeps me busy tinkering in the summer!

@silverstone As soon as my friend is back from holidays I will ask him what he is doing with the tranny.

Also did you already purchase the early bumpers? I have the set that came off my 73, I went with the Euro rear bumper and no bumper in front. My next step is going to be an engine rebuild/tranny upgrade.....I'm seriously contemplating throwing a turbo in there as well. But we will see what happens. Otherwise I'm going to start going through the suspension etc and see what I can do the freshen it up a bit, likely start with some Billy sports or HD's. So many plans, so little time, space and money hahaha but thats never stopped me in the past!

when i did my rebuild, i thought about a turbo too, but i kinda wanted to keep with my weber carb. ended up going with higher compression pistons and a lumpy cam. still might do FI, but not for a while. at the time doing an engine rebuild and doing FI with a turbo was probably a bit optimistic... :P

We have a set of bumpers, but they are a bit rough. Going to need some chrome work! Looking for a pair of over-rider delete plates for the front bumper. The turbo idea sounds interesting. I would guess the tranny and rear end are beefy enough to take the extra grunt! I'll chase you down after Christmas about that friend of yours! Do you know if parts are available (bearings, synchro parts, seals, etc) for the Getrag 245? Thanks!
