There will be fewer and fewer low cost LS engine and trans combos as time goes on. You have older Camaros, CTSV and Pontiac G8 (auto only). I would jump on the 3500. Now if it is a 99 it will be an LS1 350 hp. You could also get a later truck engine with alum block but then have to buy trans etc separate.

Unfortunately I missed out on that package.
There's a corvette breakers yard that'll ship me something from Charlotte.
Right now they have an 85k mile 5.7 LS1 for $2,500 (no box).

I'll keep reading up on what the best option is for an e30 swap.

Qualicas - As a guy that's now done what, 3 LS swaps? What did you find to be the best option in terms of $/Weight/Power?

When i done my S50B30 Swap, i felt that 300BHP was just about right for the e30 Chassis it broke away at highway speeds when overtaking in 4th with the foot down, i had crapy/worn tires on the back which was most of the problem on a damp road,

Snappy power but drivable, i recon if i had anymore power it would be hard to put down on the road

Actually, just one LS swap. I bought everything new and custom. Now I would just buy an LS with alum block from any GM truck. Most common will be the 5.3 litre. Buy that, change cam and intake and you have easy 400hp at crank. Probably check car-part.com and buy ex Canada. Local auto wreckers have 6.2 and 5.3 engines for $2000+. Then check for T56 trans or buy new for $3000.
No matter which way you go, it will be a lot of money but building it is fun and driving even more fun. Not cost effective EVER to modify any car.
I have rebuilt a number of BMW cars and engines etc though.

Serious kit arrived tonight.
The chassis will flex before any of this business.

The seat search continues. Having been beaten to a set of m3 seats, I've found these Recaros 3HRs away that I may take a chance on.

Picked up the recaros this morning, after a lot of driving.

In case anyone thinks I'm being JDM tacky, this is as close as I'll ever get to the feel of the Holy Grail - the e30 M3 Sport Evolution

Managed to make it home from Virginia with enough time to install the rear sway bar. The install ran into darkness, so I'll post photos tomorrow as I install the front bar.
Brackets for the seats should be here on the 5th or so.

Got the ARBs in last weekend, now it is finally on to fixing the interior!

As a reminder:

Wet sanded the car to try and find decent paint.
Eventually got the car to where it is far more presentable.

In more exciting news, I test drove a donor car yesterday.
I've been humming and hawing as to whether I make a terrible decision and do a swap on it, when a promising donor popped up. 2 black lines snaking down the road at the top of 3rd....it was actually frightening as I've not been in a fast car in quite a while.

I'm taking a few days to think about it, but I know me, and know I'll make a terrible decision and blow money that's needed for far more important things.

Anyway.

Single Turbo 1JZ non-vvti running around the 450hp mark.
6 speed Nissan 350z gearbox
650lb/ft Spec clutch
currently sitting in a tube fronted Lexus sc300 (Soarer).

A bad decision? Brakes will never be good enough.
Servo would need to be shifted closer to the fuse box and the sledge would need to be taken to the tunnel.

It looks to have been pretty quiet around here vs 4-5 years ago alright.
I'll keep things up to date on here as I go

I picked up the donor car last night, which was a 7hr round trip.

Can't wait to start ripping into it!

Started Auto-X shortly after getting the JZ, which has turned into an addiction lol

Image

I hit the first few outings on my dodgy 2nd hand 8-10yr old tires, which resulted in lots of this sort of action

Sideways-ness

So I said F it and bought some cheapo wheels with extra beefy 225/50r16 sticky Kumhos
Image

Image

Having then removed the rear ARB, maxed out the front camber while increasing rear camber also, things have started coming together.

Really enjoying pushing myself and the car before ruining it with a jap engine.

Looks like fun! Are those wheels Konigs? How hard/expensive was swapping that engine into the e30?

I should have been clear - I've not swapped it yet.
I only bought the donor a couple of months ago and haven't touched it. The m20 is running so strong that I'm finding it hard to justify pulling it out right now.

Wheels are cheap XXR wheels that were only something like $60/ea. I only use them for autoX where I never get out of 2nd, so they'll do just fine.
